Conserve - we promote efficiency and strive to avoid wastefulness in the design, construction, and ongoing maintenance of our communities, and we encourage our customers to embrace this principle in their ongoing ownership of the land.

When planning a project, Township 110 engages the local community, neighbors, local interest groups and other stakeholders to listen to concerns and aspirations, and to seek input for integration into the project planning and design. Township 110 works with expert scientists, foresters and local consultants to conduct studies and physical surveys of the land and its wildlife. We engage the local community, to gather input from knowledgeable stewards such as local wildlife groups and bird clubs. We take special care in properly surveying the land. We use aerial photography and GPS to map the topography, and identify wetlands, wildlife habitats, and riparian areas.

We plan the site to protect sensitive areas and water quality, incorporating appropriate setbacks from rivers, streams, wetlands, and wildlife corridors, and promoting natural systems and human health integrating open green spaces such as trail systems, parks and recreation areas and often exceeding the regulatory requirements. We extend our stewardship role by integrating interpretative and educational signage in our developments for the benefit and enjoyment of residents and visitors to learn about the environment they inhabit.

Our thoughtful designs protect, enhance, and leverage the use of natural conditions. Well-planned placement of utilities such as power, sewer, and water can minimize impacts to the environment and wildlife. We are conscious of road length and we work with the natural contours of the land to reduce cuts and fills. We look for opportunities to enhance the environment with stream and habitat restoration or the creation of nesting programs.

To ensure the ongoing environmental protection, Township 110 establishes conditions, covenants and restrictions (CC&R's) for land owners that include requirements for land use, clearing restrictions and dwelling conditions. We encourage the use of natural materials, recycled and sustainable products for home construction. Fencing must follow wildlife-friendly design and removal of vegetation is limited by size and type of vegetation, with specific restrictions for sensitive areas.

With a history that dates back more than 50 years, Plum Creek is the largest private landowner in the nation, with more than 8 million acres in major timber producing regions of the United States.

Plum Creek is an actual stream that meanders through Walnut Grove, Minnesota, an area made famous by Laura Ingalls Wilder in her book, On the Banks of Plum Creek. In the early 1800s as people moved west, the country created the township and range system to accurately define U.S. locations. Walnut Grove was designated as being within Township 110.

The pioneers and settlers of America's frontier developed homesteads and townships in areas like township 110 as they sought new beginnings and better lives. They realized their dreams by developing uncultivated land. It was a time when towns were small, nature was close by, and life was communal.
